Somewhere Down The Road
A few years on and further down the road finds the release of Chrisâ second album aptly entitled...
â Somewhere Down The Roadâ
A more âsparseâ recording than itsâ predecessor itâs a collection of another 12 songs all written by Chris and co- produced at Shindig studioâs in Coleraine with Kevin Reid.
It is however no less an album! With several up-tempo numbers, a few fox trotâs and of course a couple of very strong ballads it presents the listener with a very well balanced creation.
Songs like the up-tempo opening country/newgrass and title track âSomewhere Down The Roadâ and then the more 'old style' country song âAnother Drinkâ prepare you nicely for the rest of the album.
The philosophical âRoll The Diceâ and the humorous âWhatâs Gotten Into You Tonightâ have a more alt.country style and delivery but blend in perfectly with the good old country dance songs âI Aint Goinâ To Work Todayâ and âCountry Truck Driving Manâ.
Old Hankâs never too far from the scene either as his influence can be heard on the super tracks âToo Long Goneâ and âIf I Just Had the Timeâ while the ballads âSheâs Leaving Homeâ and âAll That I Can Doâ display a warm acoustic style with a gentle plaintive vocal.
The whole album has an over-all acoustic feel complimented with some beautiful twin fiddles and tight vocal harmonies with some really nice guitar/steel and Dobro licks here and there which add a little colour ...
musicians include:
Drums: Tony Phillips / Bass: Clive Culbertson and Jeff Craig /Acoustics: Anthony Toner/ Fiddle: John Fitzpatrick/ Electric guitar,Dobro and Pedal Steel: Al Mc Quilken/ Piano: James âCloudyâ Henry /Harmonies: Noel Mc Keary/ Electric guitar: Jeff Mc Cooke.
Recorded at Shindig studios. Coleraine 028703 42591
Produced by Chris Mc Lernon / Kevin Reid
A great follow up album to âHands Of Timeâ and great additions to any set of songs especially as Chris prepares to take to the road with his new exciting band where, he informs me, they will perform a lot of his own material alongside songs from artists who have influenced and inspired him over the years. Songs by Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Chip Taylor, Steve Earle and a few others.
