ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Today's Top 40

Details:
For the past twenty years this band has performed under many different names: Township Jive, Age of Consent, Nu Relic, and Oscar. Names have changed and band members come and gone. But, the core of McNorSon, Alan McCullagh, Anthony Noronha, and Ian Stevenson, continue to write under the auspices of their lifelong musical friendship.

With influences ranging from jazz, reggae, rock, heavy metal, and folk, it can be said that McNorSon's sound is eclectic. This attribute has helped Alan, Anthony, and Ian create a sound that they feel is true to them.

"It is who we are." - McNorSon

The band set out to define their unique sound by writing and producing their "home-grown" debut album; 20 Years of Fighting.

McNorSon would like to thank you for your support and, thank you for listening.

McNorSon is made up of Alan McCullagh, Ian Stevenson and Anthony Noronha.

Alan J. McCullagh: Born in Dublin, Ireland.
Alanâs family has always loved and listened to music. Whether traditional Irish folk songs, rock ânâ roll, or big band and jazz, Alan was always surrounded by the joy of music. Holidays would inevitably include long singsong sessions with our cousins & extended families.

Although none of Alanâs siblings really picked up instruments, Alan has always been proficient with making music on whatever instruments were laying around.

âGuitar was my first love, but I soon found that I could make music with just about anything. I never took the time to learn to read & write notation, it just slowed down the speed at which I was learning. I guess I am just blessed with good ears and the ability to translate what I want to hear into what I am doing.â

âSinging was an afterthought, born from having to finish a long gig after our singer went home sick after the first set. From that point I have never looked back, but I remain my own biggest critic when it comes to using my lungs. I find myself looking for complex, lyrical melodies hidden in the simplest guitar and piano songs. I have always found it easier to write than to read, and the layering of instruments, like painting, is what drives my passion to write & record.â

Influences include Bob Marley, Blue Rodeo, Elvis, Ozzy Osbourne, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Neil Diamond, U2, and Ol Blue Eyesâ¦to name a few

Ian Stevenson: Born in Liverpool England.
Ian and his family moved/snuck into Canada in 1975 as Tibetan refuges;-) He met his two best friends sometime thereafter.

Broken hockey sticks & cardboard guitar bodies were his first instruments, jamming out with Alan in the back yard listening to Rushâs âMoving Picturesâ.

Ian started his musical career learning guitar, but after buying a jazz bass he found hanging in a garage, he soon succumbed to the power of âThe Low Sideâ and bass has been his weapon of choice ever since.

âWe grew up pretending we were musicians, it was just a natural progression that we ended up actually being in a band. I just hang out with these two guys and try to keep up with the playing and just have fun. My life revolves around family and theses guys are definitely that.â

Anthony Noronha: Born in Tanzania, East Africa, Anthony moved to Canada with his family in 1976. Growing up in Calgary, he was fortunate enough to meet two people that would become his dearest friends, Alan McCullagh and Ian Stevenson. It has been, "20 Years of Fighting" but he would have not had it any other way.

"Playing with those two has only made my passion stronger. There is something to be said about fighting, but more to be said about being able
to resolve issues and stay friends for life."

"Music has always been a part of my life. From my father to my brother to my cousins and my crazy uncles. We've all played in bands. My first lesson was when I was 11 and it was then that I became "hooked" and infatuated with playing. My influences are very eclectic; Lionel Ritchie, MJ, Men at Work, Midnight Oil, REM, Blue Rodeo, U2, and the Sky Diggers, to name a few. I enjoy melody and lyric. I feel most relaxed when I sit down with a guitar and just write what comes to mind. Sometimes it's musical and sometimes it's just words on paper. It doesn't matter. Songs like Quiver, Come to Me, and Brittle are all snapshots of a moment in my life. Music is my outlet. It allows me to not bottle my emotions, but talk to those around me. And, I enjoy that."

The Music: 20 years of jamming, 4-track recordings, gigs, parties, friendship & fighting, finally bred the unique "home grown" debut album "20 Years of Fighting".
