EASY LISTENING: Background Music, JAZZ: Smooth Jazz
Details:
Born in Manchester, Jamaica, Bertram moved to the U.S. with his family in 1976 and started studying piano at the age of 7. During his childhood he was surrounded by many styles of music, including classical, jazz, blues, gospel, pop, rock, etc. His composing style is an outgrowth of all these genres. Particularly, he has studied jazz and classical intensely and is equally at home with Branford Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, Beethoven or Bach. He brings together both styles and techniques in a contemporary rendition. Among the qualities he likes to hear in music are melodic and harmonic beauty, warmth, gentleness, adventure, and enchantment.
Over the years he has given many solo and ensemble performances and has been musical director at several churches in the Washington, D.C. area. He has performed at Tuscarora Mill Restaurant in Leesburg, VA, and has been a piano instructor at Melodee Music Studios in Sterling, VA. His major influences are Kenny Kirkland, Branford and Wynton Marsalis and several of the major classical composers.
