Details:
Y.N.G. Souljah presents a unique style that brings God's message with clarity and precision. He's known mainly for an intense yet sometimes calm fashion of rap and a style of production that never ceases to keep heads bobbing and bodies moving. Many will tell you that none of his songs sound the same...which in every way is true. Catchy hooks, powerful and rapid lyrics, and a keen sense for production (melodic and hard rhythm-based) are the ingredients blended into his energetic songs, making "The War" a hit.
Many know Y.N.G. Souljah as an agressive and innovative producer. Others as an extremely intense lyricist. Still, many will tell you that he's a rapper with a style that is unique, distinctive, and peculiar at times. When all is said and done, Y.N.G. is a true minister, producer, musician, and emcee in his own right.
19 year old Christian rapper Jason Carroll, A.K.A. Y.N.G. Souljah was born in the heart of Wichita, KS on November 12, 1985 to his parents Jimmy and Barbara Carroll. Music has always been a major influence in Y.N.G.'s life.
At the young age of 3, Y.N.G. began playing the drums under the instruction of his father, Jimmy. He also received piano lessons at the age of 10 from his mother, Barbara. Being a lover of music, Y.N.G. combined his inherent abilities with the instruction he received and has become not only an excellent drummer, but also a writer and composer of his own innovative style of Christian rap.
When he turned 16, Y.N.G. Souljah put his production abilities to work. He began to develop his lyrical skill by freestyling and writing non-stop and it soon became apparent that this is indeed his gift. His ability to write solid lyrics and beats in seemingly not time at all is truly a gift from God.
Because of his love for music, he's spent countless hourse making beats, producing sometimes 6 beats a day which has resulted in a style of production that is unique and original.
At 18 years of age, Y.N.G. took his musical talent to the public. He started performing in churches and many events throughout the city, and has developed a true ministry of encouragement through his rap music. His lyrics are biblical, intense, and relevant and, mixed with his fresh and hard beats, leaves the hearers wanting more.
Now at the age of 19, he has already written, composed and produced two hard-hitting CD's: his debut CD entitled "The War" and the sophomore release, "The Return." They have already proven to be works that minister to young and old alike, and cross racial boundaries as well.
Y.N.G. Souljah continues to minister, write, produce, and record. Many will tell you that his style is developing into something contradictory to that of the average Christian rapper. Although his message is clear (Jesus is risen), some of his lyrics can be brutal, blunt, or healing; many are convicted upon hearing him, yet encouraged and strengthened at the same time.
