Details:
Yongen are Toshio Kamei and Chieko Kamei, a songwriting production team based in London.
Their unique music style can be described as a hybrid mixture of pop, rock, electronic and ethnic music.
Although they value their oriental roots, they aim to create music of no boundaries.
Their tracks make usage of Toshio's vocal and multi instrumental skills ( voices, guitars, violin, keyboards, bass) and Chieko's programming/editing and musical collage.
He (Toshio) writes the melody, she (Chieko) writes the lyrics.
Yongen's music is in essence an accumulation of their everyday life in the studio in Shoredich, east London.
Yongen was born when Toshio and Chieko Kamei decided to move to London, a place where they thought they could develop creatively.
Born and raised in Osaka Japan, Toshio began his career while still at university (studying the musicology of Toru Takemitsu) first as a violinist and vocalist, then as a composer.
However, after three album releases with a band (King Records, Sony Records), one album as a solo artist (Sony Records) and numerous releases (including two Japanese national chart toppers) as a writer, Toshio realized a geographical move was essential.
After spending her first eight years in the USA, Chieko Kamei went back to Japan at the age of nine.
She has produced and written numerous award winning documentary films, commercial films and TV dramas.
Yongen's first album "Floating World" was released in the UK and led to the release of album "Moonrise" from Polystar Japan.
They produce, write for other as well as cinematic tracks for television and films.
