ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: with Live-band Production
Details:
Lead guitar player Jon writing solo instrumental music starts writing with guitar player turned drummer Stefan then adds harmonica player Dave. Still dissatisfied, they find vocalist Jane and bass player Dave and create very cool jazz/funk/blues acoustic hybrid. Band grows and replaces harp player with second guitar player Bolden and explodes into full blown rock hybrid force and takes over the world....because as we all know, if it explodes, it's OVERPROOF!
Jane Tarry - Vocals
Never at a loss for words, Jane has been writing music and lyrics since she was twelve. But it wasnât until she stumbled down Overproof's rabbit hole that she found true inspiration. Always unpredictable, Overproofâs style leaves much room for her to explore her talent. She grew up in a family where music was life. It is the only thing that has fueled generations of women in her family. Finding her own place amongst all of that was gruesome. However, after much time spent searching, screaming, kicking, crying, cursing, drinking⦠(We could go on for days) she has found her voice. Sharing it with the world is the easy part, and her sole reason for existence.
Gear:
A microphone, patch boots, jeans, and water.
Jon Boisvert - guitar
Jon has been heavily involved in the North Carolina music scene for the past 7 years, both as a teacher & performer. He employs a style that is a fusion of jazz, blues, classical, rock & folk - which is the culmination of 20+ years of music study. In addition to being a student of the instrument, he has taught privately & in schools for the past 7 years. Jon, who originally hails from Maine, is currently performing in 3 Raleigh-based projects: Sexual Harris - an original instrumental progressive fusion band, Blue-T - a traditional blues band, and Overproof - which is his own original eclectic rock band.
When asked about his music and music in general, his response is simple and sincere, "Music scratches at something deeper than the gloss we put on reality with words. It transcends the language, the wood and steel, allowing our minds and souls to soar above all else. To be able to transport the listener to a time and space beyond the mundane with only a few well-placed notes is continually awe-inspiring. It's communication at its purest with absolutely no filter. To be part of creating a soundtrack for people's lives is the highest honor and keeps me striving to be better at this craft we humbly call music."
Influences:
jonatha brooke, the beatles, steely dan, the eagles, fleetwood mac, derrek trucks, ricky lee jones, paul simon, robben ford, pat metheny, wings, supertramp, the police, soulive, wes montgomery, joe pass, django reinhardt, coltrane, davis, scofield, SRV, jeff beck, satriani, zappa, jamie clement, stefan turner, walter bradshaw, jp fralin, russ erwin, cb3.

Bo Boyd - guitar, vocals
Bo plays guitar. Bo likes to play guitar very loudly. Bo has been playing guitar for as long as he can remember. With a style that is sweaty and guttural yet simple and to the point, the fusion of his vision with the rest of the band's should provide an exciting, unique musical direction. Bo has been playing in various incarnations of bands with Dave for 13 years, and with Jon for over 2 years. This proven chemistry will yield an undeniable charisma. Also completely blown away with the talent of Ms. Tarry and Mr. Turner, Bo is looking forward to testifying the Overproof message to the masses! Amen.
Influences:
AC/DC, Fugazi, Steely Dan, Zeppelin, old Stones, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, pre-80's Kiss, Getz/Gilberto, Jane's Addiction, Nashville Pussy, many others....

Stefan Turner - drums, percussion
"For me, music keeps us going. The feeling one gets from the rhythm of the song or the way the melody can give you goose bumps is as honest as it gets."

Dave Pitts - bass
With a focus on binding the rhythm & harmonies of Overproof, Daveâs bass playing style is all about finding the right notes & feel in order to adhere percussive energy with musical mass to form a comfortable groove & direction.
Dave began his music career as a guitarist playing in a cover band in college. The switch to bass came near the end of that stint when Dave met Bo back in the 90âs & started writing original material in the popish-punk band, the Scrapers. A few years later, Dave weaned himself from guitar picks while playing in Sexual Harris âan experimental, modern instrumental rock band, along with Bo & later joined by Jon. And now what do you know? ...thereâs Bo & Jon again in his newest project, Overproof.
Dave is getting up to speed on his recently acquired upright bass, so look for some acoustic Overproof performances in the future.
Bass influences:
Paul McCartney, Mike Watt, Chris Wood, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson, Paul Chambers, Scott LaFaro, Charles Mingus, Sebastian Steinberg, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Steve Sachse.
