A world beat twist on progressive funk and jazz. Innovative and rhythmic by design with smooth and precise congas and percussion leading the way. Funky drums and bass, spice-like trumpet, dynamic guitars, enchanting keyboards, and celestrial voices.
10 MP3 Songs
WORLD: World Fusion, JAZZ: Jazz Fusion
Details:
Smooth congas and lively percussion are the pivotal instruments that lead this funky, jazzy, world beat composition by percussionist and writer, Oloye Ifa Karade.
Backed by the talents of Carlos Francis on trumpet, Ken Watts on keyboards, Baba Akinkugbe Karade on bass, Phil Kearney on drums, Van Goforth and Matt Jardim on guitars, and the vocal talents of Omisanya Karade and Sharonda Allen; with African calls led by Iya-Sokoya Karade, Yetunde Karade and Adeola Karade he (Oloye) has produced a unique and refreshing twist on Jazz and World Fusion.
What's Going Down is the first of ten vibrant selections on this well-rounded CD. It is a liberating take-off based on the world recognized struggle of the miners of South Africa. All the People follows as a tribute to the reggae tradition of Rasta in Jamaica. Third in the line-up is Tribal Dancers a trance inducing movement of clave and pulsating percussion. Locks Undread has an up-lifting beat with berimbao and djembe added in the mix. The other selections, to include two traditionally percussive interludes, are also strong contenders. Rhythmic, contemplative, and atmospheric the total composition brings to mind a live performance where a number of different flavors are added to enliven and stimulate the audience.
Oloye Ifa Karade has been playing congas and percussion for over two decades. His travels and performances in The Caribbean, Brazil, Europe, The US, and Nigeria, West Africa have shaped his playing and compositions giving rise to his unique style and technique. Heralding his ancestral origins from Benin, Nigeria, Oloye draws heavily from the rhythms and tonalities found in the Ifa/Orisha traditions found there and thoughout the world.
