From straight-ahead rock, to latin jazz and country, this album indeed was inspired by many genres. Long-time Northern California musician Doug Onstad teamed with writer Gabriel Fraire to create a stark yet hopeful glimpse of our current world.

Doug Onstad had been a successful performing/studio musician in the seventies and early eighties. At that time, he took some time off to tend to family and mundane matters like making a living. By the time the nineties rolled around, he just couldn't take it anymore and he had to get back into it. Intrigued by the explosion of cool digital recorders, effects, and instruments, he bought himself a new synth and an ADAT and a Mackie board. And he's never looked back. He teamed with singer/songwriter Peggy Day and together they created an inspirational album entitled "The Good Word Carries On." Finally, after working with several other people, Doug decided to devote himself to performing, recording and producing his own material. The result is "Speak to the Madness." Doug looked at it as a true collaborative effort and decided to involve some top players from the Sonoma County, California area. For the songs themselves, he teamed with talented writer Gabriel Fraire on the lyrical content of the tunes. Gabriel had had several books published (my favorite one being "Daddy I Need to Go Potty). He'd also had several plays produced and performed in off-broadway venues that were very well-received. It was Gabe's first foray into lyric writing and he produced some amazing works running the gamut from stark realism to hopeful indignation. The lyrics blend with the music to produce a haunting world view.
