Details:
Most bands write break-up songs, On The Surface lived one.

After three years of writing songs, performing, and refining their dual-vocal attack together, lead vocalists Anthony Brodeur and Heather Fogarty ended their relationship. With the bands fate suddenly hazy, the Boston-based power-pop act, along with drummer Mat Amdur and guitarist Colby Grenier, elected to forge ahead any way possible.

As the members of On The Surface struggled personally, the bands songwriting discovered newfound poignancy and feeling. Mere days after the separation, Brodeur penned "For Goodness Sake," a reflective anthem chronicling his break-up with co-singer Heather Fogarty. The honest, optimistic nature of the song defined a new sound for the band, providing the glue for On The Surface to fuse itself back together.

Confident with their new attitude, On The Surface set aim at conquering the New England region with their energetic, upbeat, and lively performances. Through torching live sets across the northeast, On The Surface also began attracting the attention of music-scene veterans. By the end of the year, On The Surface was voted Best Pop Act by Worcester Magazine in 2004. Soon thereafter, the band rang in the New Year by sharing the stage with Blues Traveler's John Popper who assumed harmonica duties for a song on-stage at Cambridges popular rock venue, The Middle East.

Beyond rebounding from the bitterness of a break-up, On The Surface hit a new stride personally and musically. With the addition of long-time friend and guitarist Bill Knaus, the bands lineup was solidified and complete. Fueled by the fervor of surviving the healing process, the quintet continued to expand their distinctive dual-vocal sound through writing increasingly mature songs, finding itself set apart from a music scene often clouded with hollow hooks and lifeless lyrics. Deriving its strength from one another, On The Surface found its nich: writing intelligent, well-crafted pop songs, and delivering its high-energy sound to the bands increasing fan base.

Most recently, On The Surface has shared the stage with Simple Plan, Mae, Piebald, Switchfoot, The Format, Zox, Blessid Union of Souls, Junction 18, Steel Train, Lucky Boys Confusion, The Matches, Plain White T's, Action Action, Read Yellow, Kevin Devine, As Tall As Lions, The Street Dogs, Avoid One Thing, The Honorary Title, and Waking Ashland.
