Modern hard rock in the vein of Alice in Chains or Audioslave. "Appetite for Destruction meets Houses of the Holy" (Exclaim. Magazine, June/06)
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Hard Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock
Details:
Drummer Kurt Dahl graduated from Law school the same month that his band got signed to an American record label. That band is One Bad Son, and in the past year they have released a fully distributed album across North America, embarked on 2 Western Canadian tours, become the most requested band on Saskatoon's Rock 102, and won a $10,000 recording grant for their sophomore release. With an Eastern Canadian tour in the near future and new songs like the ones on this page, Kurt shows no signs of looking back any time soon.
Here are some highlights:
- formed in Saskatoon, SK in late 2004
- signed a 2 record deal with U.S. indie label Versailles Records a few months later, based on the band's demo
- debut album, This Aggression Will Not Stand, released summer '06 and distributed throughout North America through Big Daddy Distribution (George Clinton's distributor man!)
- album release was listed on MTV.com's list of hot releases for the month of May/06, after the band sent out their new material to various media outlets and played several shows in Canada & the U.S. (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1529374/20060424/rihanna.jhtml?headlines=true)
- in the summer of â06, the bandâs debut single 'Alive in Texas' began to get heavy rotation on Saskatoonâs Rock 102, becoming "easily the most requested song on Rock 102 at the momentâ¦these guys have become the giants of the Saskatoon rock scene" (Derek Watson, Program Director, Rock 102)â¦soon after major stations in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver
- the bandâs sound has been described as: "Appetite for Destruction meets Houses of the Holy" (Exclaim! Magazine, June/06)
- âthe yearâs best kept secret on the prairiesâ¦[T]hese guys are hotâ (antimusic.com, June/06)
- album received glowing reviews in the Sept/06 edition of Metal Edge, calling the debut âa sign of serious potentialâ
- received a $10,000 grant from Rawlco Radio, which is currently being used to cut their sophomore effort
- have toured Western Canada twice, and are currently on another Western swing...plans are also in the works for some Eastern dates soon
- currently looking into management & legal representation (despite the fact that Kurt has a Law degree)
- breaking news: the band just added new song 'Gringo' to the popular Garageband.com site, and it has already been named a 'Garageband Track of the Day', meaning it was one of the best reviewed songs of the 3000 or so in their genre (hard rock)
