Details:
The first things that struck me when I popped One Bad Habit's self titled album into my cd player were the bluesy guitar feel and Alice Templeton's power vocals. She has a soulful voice that sounds a lot like Blondie's Debbie Harry. This release from the Tucson, Arizona based band covers a vast amount of topics from the heavy and depressing to the light and airy. It is a combination that leaves the listener one hundred percent musically fulfilled. The first song on the cd, "April Fool" is about a horrible crime that happened to a friend of the band. It is sad and touching. One song I really liked was "Blue Lullaby." It had me imagining myself in a smoke-filled speakeasy. The track "SunShine," conjures up rays of happiness and bright laughter. This is a great cd! If you have "one bad habit" let it be this band!

The biggest flaw of One Bad Habit's self-titled CD, is that it only has 10 tracks. Just when you really get into the groove of one of the best new rock bands to appear on the scene since Sheryl Crow, it's over. At the end of the CD, you're left howling for more; naked, crazy, and prepared to track down Alice, Jeff, and Harvey so you can make them play for you all day long. Then the repeat function on your stereo kicks in, and your inner beast is calmed for another 45 minutes.

Lead vocalist Alice Templeton has a pleasant, clear, expressive voice with decent range that reminds one of Blondie. On "You" she and guitarist / vocalist Jeff Jones had some nice vocal harmonies. 9 of the 10 tracks on the CD were written by the band. All the tracks share a 1980's pop rock feel and sound. One of the better, and different sounding, songs on the CD is "Blue Lullaby." The echoing vocals and catchy, hooking guitar riffs make this a solid song and one of the more solid ones on the CD. If you like Blondie, and light, vocalist driven pop with an 80's sound, then this CD is for you. CD Review

One Bad Habit
(Twin Dragon Records)
by Rich Benson - Blues On Stage (www.mnblues.com)

"My favorite songs have always been the ones that speak my thoughts and sing my feelings," says Harvey. "With 'One Bad Habit' the idea was to allow the music to take you in a different place than where you began." The CD begins with the up tempo" April Fool," the story of a woman that goes out with a friend for a night of dancing, and ends up getting drugged and raped. "Two Hearts," which is done completely with guitars and not keyboards, is a very dreamy song of the love that two soul mates can only know. Throughout the recording of the CD, the members of One Bad Habit switch off songwriting duties and take turns in the producer seat. "Writing about your experiences, and your feelings is what it's all about. There's a dream pop, a slow blues lullaby, and a variation on a pop-rock song called "Stop Me" that is from Josie Cotton (remember the band in Valley Girl?) and a couple rocking tunes," continues Harvey. Lyrically, there's both commentary, narrative, and, as usual, confession."
