Details:
The Heels formed in the late summer of 2002 whilst up on Bredon Hill, Gloucestershire, England. One fine morning, Russ (bass & vocals) and Aron (drums & vocals), whilst sat on a small hillock, mulled over the idea of putting a band together. They approached Chris (guitar & vocals) near the camp fire of the previous night. He said that it sounded like a great idea and that they should get together to see if the combination of them playing instruments and singing was a pleasant aural experience. They also approached a friend of theirs, Joel (vocals & guitar), to see if he wanted to come round to play.

The 4 met up the following weekend and began the slow and steady process of getting to know one another musically, beg/borrowing/stealing equipment and writing songs. Their first gig came round very quickly and armed with a canon of material including "mid-tempo song", "slaghammer" and an incredibly fast early incarnation of 'mr. brannam' the performance at 'The Anchor' in Tewkesbury (UK) went down in legend.

The 4 were aware of a mysterious 5th Heel who plagued their daydreams and haunted their nights. This turned out to be their old mate Dan (keyboards and vocals) who, back from the merry old land of Oz, completed the line-up that was set to take on the world.

Months went by... the heels sound developed, gigs were played, songs were written, and a move to the bright lights of Bristol (UK) came next. Their first gig there was at the Louisiana performing in front of a non-sell-out crowd of about ten Bristol mates. Luckily the sound guy, Pete and promoter, John, spotted something in our 5 and it became the first of a dozen or so gigs at the venue, each one increasing in crowdage to the point where they sold it out several times.

They took their game up a level in 2005, touring up and down the country (UK) supporting the release of two singles, one of which (She's On Fire) hit the UK singles chart at number 72 with no industry assistance. They played to crowds as large as 30,000 and as small as 12. They played every major town in the country (UK) except, inexplicably, Liverpool.

They split on stage in true rock and roll style but remain the friends they always were, reuniting for a sell out gig in 2009 and with aspirations of making music with each other again when life stops getting in the way.
