Finally I have found the community of women â and weâre awesome altogether! Why did it take me so long?

I lived in London for 10 years where I released 2 albums: The Pictures Within (the single Too Young To Die was used for Aids Education by Nicolodeon); and For Eternity (single was Breaking). These were released through Progressive International, a label based in the USA. Too Young To Die was produced by legendary Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey on his own time.

Having returned to my hometown, Sydney, for the birth of my 1st child, I instigated and ran Sydney Songwriters (the 1st all original open mic night in Sydney) for 2 years, releasing my 3rd album Stories From Beneath in 2004.

Then I moved up to Queensland, living in a fragment of Gondwanaland, off the power grid with my 4 children & my redneck husband. I became a birth activist (singing my song Homebirth at the Mother of all Rallies on the steps of parliament house), got involved in womenâs circles & retreats, instigated and ran The Mfest â Celebrating Motherhood - for 3 years (complete with a womanâs tent in the 3rd year)... and became captivated by The Red Tent.

Welcome to the Red Tent â women relaxing, women chatting, women telling stories, women dancing, crying, drumming, laughing, sharing, letting themselves go free, meditating. Women being Woman!

The Red Tent is an age old custom â the women would go off together each month, without menfolk, and there they would relax & commune with each other. Others prepared the food and did the chores... the women could chill out and enjoy the company of the different age groups â young girls becoming women, mothers with babies in their wombs and on their breasts, childless women with skills and love to share, tired mothers of partying teenagers, old women with wisdom to impart. No work to do â just nourishing each other & renewing their energy for the work of the next month. âTime to chill, renew the vineâ.

OK, so we no longer have the luxury of taking a few days each month off together â but Red Tentâs are being held around the world... evenings, weekends â hey Iâd be into Red Tent Festivals around the globe!

This gathering together of women is a worldwide movement â complete with intense spirituality and living as one with Mother Earth.

I wrote most of this song late in 2010, completing it just before the Homebirth Shindig, where it was presented to the homebirtherâs world in a duet with my friend Bronwyn.

A couple of weeks after that I was given the book The Red Tent by Anita Diamant by a friend (Wild Woman Mina Hunt!) who was shocked that Iâd written the song in complete ignorance of the book... and it just goes to show that the age old concepts shown in the book are filtering back into our community!

The Red Tent is written, performed, recorded and produced by myself, mixed in Nashville with the award winning Rob Feaster (Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Peter Gabrial, Sting, Blink 182 etc etc), and mastered by the legendary Hank Williams from Mastermix.
