Acoustic, impressionistic. BOREAL literally means "northern regions, with a dominance of coniferous forests." It is geography...it is metaphor.

Mark says, "This album was written over six or seven months. The songwriting was never forced. In fact, I made it a point to let the lyrics rise up on their own...out of the 'unconscious' (to use Jung's word). Usually I would start with a single idea, or the chorus would come immediately. Then I would un-focus my thoughts, allowing the lyrics to come about on their own. The subconscious is a powerful place. We're all on our own path. And that path is heavily influenced by those deep inner experiences of life, determined by impression and intuition more often than intellect. Art is by definition subjective, and necessarily so. It's my hope that these songs connect with you meaningfully, where you are now."
