Hubu blends strummed and finger-picked acoustic guitar, bass, drum set, Latin percussion, minimalism and live looping a fresh style of music that is hard to categorize. I like to call it âexperimental folk.â As for the singing, with its range of low crooning and eerie, upper-register vibrato, expect moments when your hairs stand up or your heart breaks just a little. Iâm proud to say that I wrote this entire album and then delivered each and every instrumentâs performance naturally (no auto-tune here) to complete the recording within four days.

The sound of Hubu evolved while I dealt with the intense loneliness and somewhat maddening isolation of serving in the Peace Corps. My service took me to Western China where I served for two years, a time during which my understanding of reality was radically altered. Concepts such as country, culture, language, love, even my very ego, were turned completely upside-down forever. I spent countless nights in that faraway town searching for a new reality to replace the illusion which had previously served as mine. And while Hubu is not the destination, it certainly feels like the right journey.
