"You know the phrase simple yet effective? Well that phrase perfectly describes âTemperanceâ, the new single from A Censored Sunlight: a project founded by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Nick Malone. The track is nothing more than a vocalist accompanied by a piano, yet it has more impact on the listener than some songs featuring a full orchestra or band.
âTemperanceâ starts out with a basic chord progression, and after a few bars you are struck with an incredible voice. The vocal melody is more than catchy, itâs beautiful and memorable. I can guarantee you will find yourself humming it at random intervals during the day. It got stuck in my head after the first listen.
As for the vocal performance, Malone has very good control of his voice. The transitions between pitches is very clean, no cracking and no going off key. It is somewhat difficult to hear what the singer is saying in some parts of the song, but the emotions trying to be expressed are clear. The vocalist isn't just telling you how he feels, he's making you understand how he feels, and may evoke that emotion in you as well. Definitely touches your heart and soul.
The arrangement of the song is also note worthy. There is plenty of variation to keep the listener interested, the chord progressions and change in rhythms are smooth, vocal harmonization in the chorus works very well, and the duration is just right: long enough to feel complete and short enough that the listener will want to place the song on repeat. I have already listened to it about 10 times. Everything just flows together so well.
Finding any faults with this song is quite a challenge. So check it out and see for yourself. I promise you that you will be impressed!"

Who is A Censored Sunlight?

A Censored Sunlight, born Nickolas Malone, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Born in the fall of 1997, Nick grew up in downtown Chicago and its suburbs, and was part of a family that had almost no musical background, except for his great grandfather, who he never had the chance to meet. Nick began taking interest in guitar at a young age, and by the age of nine, he was beginning to write and self-produce music. His first official album, entitled Bloodlines, is currently being recorded and produced by Chicago music icon, Liz Berg.

A Censored Sunlight began guitar lessons at the age of five, but began writing and recording original pieces at age nine, on a fifteen dollar plastic MP3 player. He distributed his low-quality EPâs amongst family and friends, as well as various internet services such as iLike and YouTube. Sunlightâs first experience with recording was a year after his first EP was finalized. Young and aspiring guitarist, Jack Loth, who is now part of the Ohio band Still Thinking, asked Nick to record the vocals for a song entitled 16 Tons. While the song was recorded, the project was abandoned. However, Sunlight was given his first taste of professional recording, and couldnât wait to do more. After experimenting with various local bands, including Amplify, Escape Ladder, and Strangers in Uniform, he ultimately decided that solo work was the proper route for his songwriting ability. In the year 2008, Sunlight met Liz Berg through singer-songwriters Brendan McDonough and Tommy Loftus, who were also a part of Strangers in Uniform. After seeing Sunlight perform at various local shows with the band, Liz eventually heard Nickâs original work, and saw something that was definitely marketable. Liz and Sunlight went on to produce and record his first professional single, Temperance, which will be featured as one of the lead singles for his debut album.

A Censored Sunlight is mainly influenced by British pop music, including The Beatles, Spice Girls, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Ellie Goulding, and ADELE. However, he is also heavily influenced by alternative rock artists, including Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy, as well as ambience techno music, such as YACHT. Sunlight has the vocal range of a tenor or baritone. Sunlightâs prominent songwriting style could be called power ballads with a small pop flare.

A Censored Sunlightâs shows try to make a connection with the audience for an ultimately more intimate and personal concert experience. Between songs, Sunlight typically takes breaks to talk to fans and new listeners.
