The club circuit in Los Angeles is hipster-land, but Will Fogarty has bucked the trend, introducing his soulful country sound to audiences in downtown L.A. and surrounding communities. "People have been very receptive to me and the songs--which goes to show that melodic tunes and good stories sung by someone who believes in them are appealing to just about everyone," said Will. "I had to convince myself that even the hipster crowd would like my songs, but maybe I've just worn them down because I always feel a positive response."

The Pennsylvania native's collection of country-tinged originals touch on topics of family, courtship, loss of true love, admiration for a hero, and facing life head-on when you don't quite feel up to it. "It's a realist's approach to the circumstances we face in life. There's beauty in the recognition that we're free to follow our paths and that we must let others do the same," Will said.

As a teacher who has worked hard to get through to many different students, as someone who has closely observed human behavior, as a sports enthusiast who has won some and lost some, and as a lifelong and humble student of guitar, Will brings a common touch and common sense to his performances. "I respect each person in the audience, and try to reach each one in some way. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we are downhearted. That's life, and I try to put life to music--so that maybe it's a little more understandable."

A traditional county fan, he contemplates a move to Nashville--aka songwriting heaven, but is concerned with the "hipsterification" of country music. "I'd hate to leave Hollywood and find that Hollywood has moved to Nashville ahead of me. I admire George Strait and the way he just stands there and sings the heck out of a song. I admire Keith Urban because, although he is a rock star, he is a guitarist of immense talent and a real entertainer who respects and contributes to country music. I'm not sure I love some of the new sounds, though. I'm always going to gravitate to the older songs, and the new songs that sound more traditional," he said. Most of all, he says he appreciates soulfulness and subtlety in any genre and in special singers, past and present. "It's what I aspire to in my songs. That, and, every once in awhile, a beat you can dance to."
