Details:
"The Potato Pirates continue to rep the Mile High as hard as anyone with their second full length album, Tried and True Black and Blue. The disc is a collection of 12 sing along punk rock anthems that brings their original style together with familiar vibes of punk veterans Rancid, Dropkick Murphys and Against All Authority.
"Nothing is original, everything's been done," says vocalist/guitarist Vinny Capaldo-Smith on the song "Loosen Up," but The Potato Pirates bring a style that the burgeoning music scene in Denver has yet to produce. The lyrics of Capaldo-Smith and vocalist/bag piper Scott Risch cover the spectrum of a punk rocker's emotions. Hardcore songs such as "Self Made Man" and the opener "Workhorse" cover the light hearted humor and fun in songs such as "Loosen Up" and "Fuck The Radio." They even throw in a nice punch to the hippies on "Go Green."
The album is fast paced and to the point. The blue collar attitude and lust for adventure that good punk rock has always stood for dominates the music, and the sound is emphasized by the rapid-fire drumming of Steve Stackhouse. The disc jumps back and forth from heavier punk songs to lighter, more ska influenced tracks, which may seem a bit awkward at first but keeps their style from sounding too repetitive.
If you have ever caught these guys live, you have experienced the raw energy that they bring to the stage, and with this new record they have sealed that vigor into the confines of digital sound and wrapped it in plastic so you can wear out your voice before you even get to their next show. Just try not to punch a hole through the roof of your car." - Tim Wenger, Colorado Music Buzz
