Svetlana Gorokhovich and Liliya Khobotkova are ideal interpreters of Gavrilin's and Rachmoninoff's piano music. They are sisters; their musical values and sympathies were shaped in a musical household. Both attended the School for Musically Gifted Students in Kazan, Russia and both went on to earn advanced degress: Liliya, an M.A. from the Kazan Conservatory, Svetlana, a Ph.D. from St. Petersburg State Conservatory.
Beginning in 1983 Svetlana and Liliya began successful careers as soloists and duo pianists, performing in the major cities of the Soviet Union. They received high praise from both critics and audiences.
Their partnership, however, was interrupted when Svetlana emigrated to the United States 1989. Reunited in 1992, Svetlana and Liliya resumed their careers. A happy result of this reunion is this recording of "Russian Sketches."
