Singer/Songwriter/Musician. These monikers all fit Jay Speight. The talented 27-year-old who was born and raised in the sleepy town of Kings Mountain, NC, just outside of Charlotte, considers himself each of these, and rightfully so. Speight, a natural-born musician, began playing piano at age 9, singing in junior high and was inspired early on by such musical legends as Billy Joel, Elton John, Lionel Ritchie and The Eagles to name a few. Following up on his musical inclinations with an urge to pursue his writing abilities, his true musical talent began to blossom after picking up guitar while a sophomore in college.

Influenced by the sounds of soul, classical, jazz and gospel music, Speight has honed his sound by embracing anything and everything that catches his ear. âFrom Ray Charles to Sting, from Bach to the Beatles, to me, great music is great music.â

Although continually striving to develop and sharpen his chops, Speight admits: âAs an artist, I just want to write and perform songs that people can connect with. I really believe in giving people intelligent lyrics and great melodies. Theyâre smart enough and sophisticated enough to get it, theyâre just not getting it from too many places.â
