speedbump is from Vancouver, Canada. their music, which has been described as 'earnest, catchy alt.rock', draws influence from the rheostatics and 54*40 as well as a bunch of more credible sounding independent bands. Their first album, Fresh Out of Quarters, was released in 1999. It charted in the top 10 on dozens of college radio stations in Canada and supported a cross-country tour in the summer of 2000.
BAND HISTORY
1995 - Band forms to take part in a talent contest at the University of British Columbia. All video records of this event have been burned and re-burned.
1996- speedbump plays their first show at The Mighty Niagara, winning a battle-of-the bands. Much merriment ensues.
1999 - Band releases their first album, Fresh Out of Quarters. The single, So Believable, actually gets some airplay on local radio, and the album does well on college charts across the country. speedbump responds by buying a big green van.
2000- speedbump tours across the country in a green Econoline 350 van, aptly named 'The Hulk'. They play almost 20 shows between Vancouver and Halifax, including several sold-out dates, and one show for 3 people in Sault St. Marie, Ontario.
2003 -speedbump releases their second album, rockrollrepeat. To coincide with the launch, they also begin the Traveller Project, a unique collaborative art project that they hope will bring their music to thousands of people across Canada.
