SPOTLIGHT ON SPIDA
Spida is a unique âone-man, one-guitar outfitâ and a true 21st century troubadour. On stage Spida captivates his audiences with his quirky, off-the-wall observations of life, love and the universe. No bullshit, Spida sings and tells it as it is. Spida is a prolific songwriter and mean guitarist with own individual style.
Born in Sheffield, England of mixed Irish/Yorkshire parents, Spida began his musical career touring the UK/Dutch folk circuit with bass player Graham Jones. This led to good radio exposure on BBC Radio 2 with live performances on the âFolk on 2â programme.
In the 80´s Spida and Graham collaborated with producer Mickey Most of Rak Records and recorded âPalace Signâ by Adrian Gurvitz, which received good airplay on BBC1 Radio. Through Mickey Most, Spida was introduced to Patrick Moraz of the Moody Blues who liked Spida´s songs and arranged for a deal with Carrera Records. They released Spida´s songs âDreamboatsâ and âBelly to Bellyâ, which were reasonably successful in Europe.
Spida then went solo and moved to Scotland were he constantly toured the acoustic circuit and played support to such artists as Bert Janch and the Commitments.
Spida now lives in Spain and works in large acoustic â friendly venues. His crafted and original performances cover a mixture of his own songs as well as original and unique versions of well-known classics. Spida takes on a wide range of music from Pink Floyd to Bob Dylan, Hank Williams to The Beatles and Oasis to Coldplay. Spida loves and respects songs from all era´s and genres but always adds his own individual style to anything he covers. Pink Floyd on one guitar never sounded so good!
Spida launched a web site www.freepeacesongs.com in January 2006 to promote his song for George W.Bush called âGet It Right This Timeâ, it´s to the point and in his face. This song has already gained very positive interest and radio play the the USA, Canada and Australia.
