Cool and Rooted folk/blues music by 2 ofCape Breton Islands most influencial musicians
20 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Power-folk, BLUES: Acoustic Blues
Details:
It wasnât obvious at the time, but when Angelo and Carlo Spinazzola were beginning to play music with friends in their neighbourhood some twenty years ago, they started something that would impact and influence the lives of everyone who knew them. And as they continued along their paths, in music and in life, that influence would spread. This album reflects something of the character of these two people, these brothers who had so much in common, but retained their individuality. They would play music together, and on their own, each developing his distinctive, definitive style.
Angelo found himself in melodies and the words they convey. His singing style has taken on an identity of its own, having fully absorbed all the influences of his upbringing, from his motherâs singing to the records of his youth. Music became the underlying of his being and you can hear that on this album in his singing, his songwriting, and the way he plays guitar and harmonica. The songs are mainly about hope and positive change in life. This music is his release, freeing his innermost thoughts. âI think we are all trapped or confined in our lives and are looking for a release,â says Angelo. âThis CD is my way of releasing my expressions and thoughts to the world⦠you could say the songs are my âkisses to the windââ.
Release contains the last music recorded by Carlo, an exceptionally talented singer, songwriter and guitar-player. In his too short life, Carlo embodied the sense of what is meant by the phrase âRenaissance manâ. A multi-faceted musician, poet, artist, teacher, craftsman, and athlete, he gave all he had to those around himâfriends and strangers alikeâand more to those in need. He asked for nothing in return, and frequently thatâs what he got. It didnât feel like there was anything you could give him. He seemed to like it that way. While it may have been difficult for those around him to repay the generosity of his gifts during his lifetime, it is impossible not to pay tribute to his spirit now that he has moved on.
The collection of music on these two discs says a lot about these two people, and in turn, says a lot about us all. It tells of life and loss and love, friends and family getting along together and apart from each other. It reflects the continuity of a community that recognizes the value of the parts and their contribution to the whole. Most of the people playing on these recordings have known each other since they were much younger and they play on these recordings not for the nostalgic value or a sense of obligation, but because they have played together since they started playing and continued to, over the years, because they enjoy it.
