Eccentric melodic pop/rock, musically various, lyrically cynical and humorous
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: British Pop
Details:
Spiky Toys are an exciting new band from the Theydon Bois area of London, England. They specialise in a wide variety of modern, slightly eccentric music, veering effortlessly from melodic pop, through indie rock, sometimes reaching the more avant garde. The five members, Sarah Hounslow-West (vocals); Lippy OâPencil (bass); Dux McObvious (guitar): Geoffrey Mental (drums); and Arthur Johnston (keyboards), achieve their unique sound through a combination of virtuosity, originality, general non-comprehension and a contractual obligation to their manager, Joe Lacey.
It is he who writes all Spiky Toysâ songs, the lyrics of which encompass many and various themes, including misery, love, alienation, governmental policies on internal affairs and the problem of idiots. He also arranges and produces their recordings, and enjoys complete control over their style, image, movements and any contact with the outside world.
âThis Isnât Radioâ is Spiky Toysâ 4th CD, and probably their most instantly accessible, tending towards a more commercial sound than previous or subsequent efforts. However, the final track, âVoidâ, at 9 minutes, is a musical tour de force which, despite experimental leanings, is carefully structured to reach a powerful and terrifying climax.
