Inspired by a day that changed the lives of everyone,
Shades of Vision dedicates and sings this song to all who
lost family, friends and a piece of their heart on that September day.
Portions of proceeds from the sell of this song go to the
Deputy Chief Raymond Downey Scholarship Charity Fund
in tribute to New York Fire Department Chief Downey and
all who serve and help others in the line of duty.
About the Song
In 2002, we received a phone call from a very close friend, Jullian Grante. Jullian was in the hospital recovering from cancer when he was inspired to write the poem, âThe Day Our Towers Fell.â The well-written and well-received poem somehow ended up in the hands of CNN where it was read live during one of the cable networkâs evening broadcasts. After airing, songwriters from around the country contacted Julian about writing a song using his poem as the inspiration. He called Shades of Vision and requested that we write the song. That September Day was born.
Deputy Chief Raymond Downey Scholarship Charity Fund
On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey, Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Command, died in the line of duty while helping others escape from the fire and collapse scene of the twin towers at the World Trade Center. Affectionately referred to as âThe Master of Disasterâ and âGod,â Chief Downey truly was a legend in his own time. The fire service was a major force in his life as evidenced by his sterling career.
As a tribute to Chief Downeyâs legacy, his family established the D.C. Raymond Downey Scholarship Charity Fund to keep his memory alive and to benefit the many organizations the Chief cherished.
Shades of Vision is contributing portions of the proceeds from this song to the Fund in tribute to Chief Downey and so many others who served and died on that September day.
