Details:
An emotional Hip Hop experience, an emotional strong stand in hip hop .
Shadow Storm is an introduction to the Shadow Zu, in its collectivity and its individuality, and in the broader picture, to the mind-blowing talent present in African Hipolitics whether in English, French, Wolof, Patois.
It is a direct blow to the stereotypes about Africans, a revelation as well as a musical exploration. Hip hop is worldwide and Shadow zu is for sure a serious contender shooting for the stars. Listening to the album will help u understand why the subtitle African Hip Hop is deserved in its entirety, because the Zu music is African, by its members, by its accents, by its feel, but the same feel is hip hop, in its rawness and smoothness, in its beats and in its rhymes as well as its melodies. These African cats are the pure incarnation of conscious Hip Hop with a broad international vision, well seasoned with soul touching hooks and melodies sounding like they came out of an undiscovered planet. Their particular message and flow have been circling the globe and for result landed them many shows as far as Oakland, sacramento, los angeles, Roseville, bakersfield. Their actions reflect their music and they are regulars at community events such as a concert for M.A.S.K(Mothers against senseless killings) as well as many socially oriented other events all accross the USA. They eventually were featured in such ventures like BBC hip hop radio hosted by the one and only, reputed JJC aka Skills, on a live radio interview all accross the entire United Kingdom.
That's wazzzup....
It is hip hop as a vehicle for a simple message: We are coming through!!! It is a message of peace and love, a genuine try to uplift the masses(refer to track number 7, focus), an aspiration for religious harmony.
Equal rights and justice for all, and as a vehicle, you will make way or get run over.
That's them and them here: The African Hipolitics family whose members ironically come from the West African States of Ivory Coast (Da I.C) and Senegal (Jolofland). The very dynamic rapping trio is composed by the brothers Aboubakar Siddik aka Sixlames and Lord Cheik, and the Wolof Wise Man Sandstorm Ja Jolofman have been separately involved with hip hop ever since it took over the streets of Dakar in the late 80's early 90's.
The architect behind the original Zu sound is none other than Jamaican born producer extraordinaire D Roc aka Rise whose involvement in hip hop goes back to the 80s. The small town of Bakersfield, California will be the setting for the meeting of these like-minded souls, and from the start, sparks flew between Siddik and D Roc after they met through mutual friends in 1999. They recorded a mini album for Siddik, a project that was later shelved and repackaged as part of the first tentative Shadow Zu album, "Sunz Of Tha Dark Continent", recorded when Lord Cheik joined his brother Siddik in the U.S. The final block of the Zu compound would come in the form of former New York, Washington dc resident N'Diaye aka SandstormJA. Thru the magic of the Internet, a meeting took place, and the result is the banging joint "How would you feel?", of the "Shadow Storm" album. Later meetings would yield the violent "Shadow Storm", which the album is titled after.ShadowStorm is a recrimination cry against the crime of slavery.
"He who swallows a coconut, has unshaterrable trust in his anus" shadow music is bound to ring in more than one ear. 19 tracks, commercialism free, check it out.
