ROCK: Americana, ROCK: Roots Rock
Details:
since their formation in december of 1996, shoot lucy has been bringing audiences a sense of anecdotal american roots rock, and âyâall-ternativeâ with an occasional pop-rock twist. hailing from minneapolis, shoot lucyâs sound has been described as acid country and folkternative, but however you decribe them, their unpretentious and almost self-deprecating lyrics convey a light-heartedness to this band that makes for a well rounded show thatâs usually full of surprises.
dave berntson, lead vocals/rhythm guitar, introduces the haunting melodies and lonesome twang that can only be learned from growing up amongst the endless flat prairie land in north dakota, while lead guitarist jim strachan provides the pop riffs and strong additional vocals that hallmark the bandâs sound. steve schultz on drums, and bassist chris berg (for whose dog the band is named), provide solid rhythmic footing.
the bandâs debut release in 2000, bipolar expedition, produced by tom herbers (honeydogs, jayhawks) was the result of several years of hard work and is representative not only of the bands signature sound and musicianship, but also their unique sense of humor and worldview.. the album has received airplay on major radio stations KTCZ, KFAI and KQRS, where shoot lucy performed a live set on the KQRS homegrown show. the band will begin work on a second album in early 2002.
shoot lucy can be seen at most of the major clubs in minneapolis, including the cabooze, bunkers, and oâgaras garage, as well as in st. cloud, mankato, and fargo-moorhead. the band has also been featured at the annual grand old day celebration in st. paul, and on the main stage of the bash in the grass festival in brookings, SD. with a constantly evolving sound, featuring music thatâs a little country, a little pop, and a little retro, shoot lucy is anything but predictable, and always fun to have around.
