Shovelhead came together in early 1999 from four local marietta,georgia musicians who had been in different band with each other over the years.one night when brad jenkins on guitar and phillip howell on bass,scott fox on drums decided to invite jeff lawrence over to play second guitar,a strange twist occurred and jeff never picked the guitar up and just sang from a stack of his lyrics he brought over rythems that brad jenkins had been working on and the rythem section joined in,soon arrangements started to fall in to place and shovelhead was born.jeff did pick up the guitar and played dark clouds of war ,the only song that had been already written and doubled guitar on third path later.
what followed was phillip and jeff arguing about who would make the better front man because phillip wanted to sing lead and wanted jeff on more guitar,but was finally settled that jeffs raspy style could sing some pain into the agressive riffs of brad jenkins.
the band soon practiced,worked up a set of originals,played a gig or two and recorded this cd ,the third path.after the cd,darrell cabrera was asked to join the band on second lead guitar,sometimes having a triple guitar assault the good southern way.a lot of great songs were written during this time and many gigs were played.this was a great band with all five members getting along great and great heavy songs pouring out.
soon jeff lawrence moved to salt lake city,scott fox to augusta, ga. and brad jenkins battled some personal demons.
the band was gone in a year.phillip now plays for the wreckoning,brad and darrell are in different local bands,jeff lawrence runs dixie music instuction in salt lake utah,scott fox plays in a christian rock band.
these guys have known each other there whole lives and vow to reunite quickly if this cd gets them signed or sells well on cd baby.jeff lawrence also has seven cds available
and plays in the phyleen smith band and produces table nine,both who have cds available.phillip howell is the basist for the wreckoning with cd available.
shovelhead eventually got down to jeff lawrence on guitar and vocals and brad and darrell both gone and there were a few gigs done this way and a live cd of the trio is available.don't miss this heavy band that could have been and might still be.
