Hereâs a recent review in Link magazine(March 06)
Shipcote's Foot-tappers are an absolute joy to listen toâ¦â¦.
âSongs & Duetsâ was recorded at Wildtrax recording studio in the old grounds of Lambton Lion Park, County Durham (scene of a memorable Bee Line day trip for yours truly in the 70's) From the CD cover (which looks a faithful homage to the old 78's labels like Paramount) to every single one of it's 12 tracks, it could be one of the best feel good CD's of 2006. Blending jazz, blues and gentle country songs it is a true gem of an album. I love the way Shippy sings his vocals-natural and softly spoken. He also has a real earthy honesty with his lyrics and subject matter. The deadpan humour of Tom Waits but without the gravel voice. And Vicki Price's vocals work so well juxtaposed against Shippy's. He could be tellin' you a tale over a cup of tea or whilst having a pint. 'She's not a child' sounds like the honest positive acceptance that his daughter is no longer a little girl anymore. 'Goodbye Saturday' will strike a chord with any parent who realises that the bliss of idle Saturday's eating chocolate flakes and reading newspapers is gone forever. But I've had the CD over a week now and my favourite tracks keep changing. Chris Bartley-Link Magazine
