POP: with Live-band Production, ROCK: Acoustic
Details:
Barcelona based SUNSTATION have recently released their opera prima CD âSunstationâ. An album full of diverse experiences which may embark you through a meander of Blues, Rock, Trance and even touching of ethnic tempos. Eventhough the album brushes on an eclectic mix of elements, it is meant to be conducted in essence through an organic electro-acoustic flow.
The line-up:
Canadian born lead vocalist and guitarrist Cece Giannotti. A Berklee College of Music graduate, whose musical experience leading up to Sunstation includes work with artists such as Iggy Pop, Terry-Lynn Carrington, Rhonda Smith, The London Symphony Orchestra and John Cale. His former group Traditional Tourist opened Tina Turner and Spanish pop artist Kiko Veneno. Last year Cece saw the release of his new-world cinematic solo debut âNoctambuloâ, [Capita Planet Records], from which two songs have already aired on the Bob Harris Show [BBC Radio2].
Nashville (TN) born bassist Joe Lewis has also established himself as a player in the Barcelona music scene. With an instinctive ability to effortlessly switch styles from Punk or Jazz to Ethnic Fusion, Joe feeds off the buzz of the live audiences. In addition to bass and backing vocals for Sunstation, he has also recorded albums for various Barcelona based artists, including Ceceâs âNoctambuloâ and Alex Warner's "Uncut Diamond", as well doing music production work for TV, theatre and film, as well as dubbing. Formerly, Joe has toured with various projects around Spain and has also jammed with Grammy winner Michelle Shock.
Classy Fusion/Rock Barcelona born guitarist Andreu Martinez has also been a frequently familiar face amongst the live music scene within Barcelona. He has released his own debut solo album âSenyals de Vidaâ (Signs of Life), as well as a recent live album showcasing exceptional guitar skills backed by solid musicianship. The free spirit that drives Andreuâs work navigates effortlessly between contrast found in Blues, Country and Rock.
The other Barcelona born member, drummer Pere Foved is no stranger to the cityâs music scene having merged himself into an intense musical career performing regularly with Sunstation guitarist Andreu Martinez amongst the local Blues, Jazz and Funk circles in Barcelona, collaborating in numerous Jazz festivals around Spain, and performing on several Spanish released records by local artists.
Having emerged from the vibrant lively musical circle in Barcelona, which in recent years has established itself as the multi-cultural musical centre in Europe, Sunstation have taken on board a strong following and are ready to commence forward and expand the Sunshine throughout other lands. Since joining forces at the start of 2004, Sunstation regularly fill the acoustic style venues they showcase in to capacity, delivering to their growing and enthusiastic following, a colour pallet which ranges from warm intimacy right down to fresh live jam-based spontaneity. This is no surprise given the past experiences of each band member, whose incomparable live performances and stage presence come naturally to them and pleasurably to the listener.
The album opener âBlack and Blueâ was selected and recently aired on the Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2 Friday and Saturday shows in the UK. A new unreleased single "Send Me a Sign" has also aired recently.
