Details:
Sunyatta plays originals that were inspired by many styles of music...jazz, blues, folk, rock, soul and new age. On "Secret Love", many of the songs that Sharon wrote were written after her deep spiritual meditative experiences. Shelly's songs were written early in his career...are thought-provoking and improvisational. Sunyatta often add other musicians in their performances. For this project, they added sitar, guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion and vocals. Sunyatta's CD, Secret Love, is a collection of all original songs, a diverse musical journey with lyrics that are confrontational, personal and spiritual in nature.
SHARON RAE: Sharon Rae is a singer who grew up singing jazz and pop. Her style ranges from folk/blues, cool jazz and soulful new age. She is blessed with a soulful, rich, warm voice that she nurtured through many years of self-training. Sharon performed in Europe and the U.S. in the years prior to forming Sunyatta. Working in rock, blues, jazz and dance bands, Sharon has worn many hats. In 1982, Shelly and Sharon formed their first band together, working all throughout Florida and the southeast.
SHELLY DAVIS: Shelly is a pianist who grew up in New York playing mainstream jazz. He plays with great passion and insight. While still in high school, he won a Downbeat scholarship for improvisation. In 1967, he became an original member of the pop group, the "Brooklyn Bridge". After four albums, a gold record and numerous TV. and concert appearances, Shelly left the city for the hills of Tennessee to start a community with friends, focusing on spiritual growth and a closer relationship with nature. Later he returned to playing original music and jazz and began to tour the United States, spending several years in Kansas City, Aspen and Boulder, Colorado. He formed his own blues and jazz bands sharing the stage with performers such as Bonnie Raitt and Mose Allison. In 1982, he worked in Orlando, Florida including Disney World, Epcot Center and other locations throughout Florida with Sharon.
Sunyatta lives in Tucson.
