SUENOS is the Spanish word for dreamsâ¦â¦ and SUENOS is the name of the exciting Chicano Soul band from Sacramento, California that was formed in 1979. The group felt a common goal âto play original Latin music for the peopleâ would set them apart from other bands.
Under the guidance of bandleader/ songwriter/bassist Frank Lizarraga and Israfel Records (now, Lovetaxi Productions), the group started recording and within months signed a distribution deal with Luna Records of Los Angeles and were releasing records to Spanish and English markets and radio stations.
Two songs; âBABY, I LOVE YOUâ and âOHâ LITTLE GIRLâ received
extended airplay in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Their 12â single âIâM SO CRAZY FOR YOUâ was well received on both the West & East coasts and in Europe. Their cumbia âLA CITA and ranchera âSOY COMPESINOâ received airplay on regional & national Spanish radio stations.
The group has opened for Tierra, Los Lobos, Jorge Dalto, Francisco Aquabella and Los Tigres Del Norte. After ten years of performing at night clubs, Lowrider shows, gran bailes, and music festivals the band disbanded to pursue solo projects and would regroup to participate for special events and studio projects.
Recently, a few SUENOS songs have shown up on classic hit albums like, âLOST CHICANO OLDIESâ, Vol. 1 (#3001) and PURA AZTLAN CHICANO CLASSICS, Vol. 1 (#1001). Currently, Lovetaxi Productions has remastered & reissued 11 songs on a CD âHOLLYWOOD GIRL and more Chicano Soulâ by SUENOS (CD-411) and plans are in the works to reissue an CD of 30 plus songs in Spanish including sessions with other artists, in early 2007.
