Beth's refreshingly lo-fi sound combines liturgical Hebrew and original English texts with a contemporary folk-grass-roots feel. NOT your typical synagogue worship music.
10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, WORLD: Judaica
Details:
The child of nightclub musicians, Beth grew up in a home filled with music of all kinds. Largely self-taught on guitar, recorder and trumpet, drums and percussion, Beth was drawn to sounds of all kinds: making her own instruments from found objects, composing duets and trios to play with her middle school band-mates and arranging pop and show tunes for her high school jazz choir.
Beth taught instrumental music for 20 years in Portland area high schools. She also ran a percussion studio and coached private students of all ages.
Although music occupies much of Beth's time, she's also been a dedicated bicycle commuter and outspoken bicycle advocate since childhood and is proud of the fact that she hasn't owned a car for over 15 years. Beth has worked as a professional bicycle mechanic for over a decade and is a co-owner in a collectively-run bicycle shop in Portland. She devotes much of her free time to alternative transportation advocacy.
Beth lives with her partner in Portland, and serves [Reconstructionist congregation] Havurah Shalom as a music leader.
