A great album is like a good book, something that is read all the way through. No pages skipped, no words skimmed. All of its breathtaking lyricism taken in like the scene of an evening sunset sinking and sulking in the refulgent horizon; containing all the elements of any great literary work: plot, emotion, irony, foreshadowing, metaphorical symbolism, tragedy, comedy, romance, conflict, and resolution. A good album is like a portrait of human life, capturing all the elements of the human condition. An album tells a story that takes the reader from the wee small hours in the morning to the tender, tranquil dreams of night. A good album plays in your heart and follows you wherever you go, because music is simply poetry in motion, and a great album is the soundtrack to the major motion picture of your life. Like a good book, behind every album there is an author, and behind every author is a story.
Nathan Hardy is the author of Second Chance. He writes all the music, designs the artwork, pens all the lyrics, and performs all of the songs. Second Chance is a beautifully melodic form of acoustic emo with influences from pop/rock. During the spring of 2005, Second Chance officially began when Nathan entered the studio to record his first EP entitled "The words we long to say." Despite its recent release on May 24, 2005 it has already created quite a buzz among teenagers, young adults, and parents alike comprising a fan base that is more like a group of close knit friends.
Although Second Chance's debut is fairly recent, it began as a dream with years in the making. Nathan received his first guitar, a Washburn acoustic, in the Christmas of 2000 and began writing immediately. Towards the end of his freshman year in high school, Nathan and his friends were trying to form a band and needed a name. While praying for a name, the phrase "Second Chance" came to mind. Nathan's parents soon informed him that they would be moving however, so he decided to save the name for a later time. Upon moving to Houston, Nathan began getting involved in the local music scene with bands such as Lost Endeavor, Absolution, and The Last Goodbye. After those groups disbanded, Nathan decided to begin following a dream he had been longing to catch for many years. A dream of a new beginning, the dream of a second chance. Afterall, everyone deserves a second chance.
