The first recording from the Jazz Band of this Orange Park, Fl school. The school's music program is still in infancy and already turning out music this good.
The structure, simplicity and complexity of these tunes is surprising given the ages of the students and their experience level. A complete student production - from the writing to the playing to the packaging - a pleasantly surprising first offering.
Without trying to be technical virtuosos they have managed to find ways to use their instruments in intersting and inventive ways. There's the two bass sound on "Crystal Egg", the late night cool of "Midnight Blues", the hip bass solo on "Euphoria" and the Jobim-inspired beauty of "Turn Out The Lights". These elements have been combined with strong, hummable melodies that stay with you long after you stop listening.
