Walter Tore is the creator of Spontobeat and he appears to be the only person in the world who spontaneously creates all his words and music as he goes along in an american roots vibe. Although he uses musicial instruments to do this, he is universes apart from the established music world. Imagine not having a clue as to what will happen when you sit down to play. No rehearsals, no repeating songs, no set lists, no covers, no overdubbing, no requests, no thoughts of beginng or ending, no concerns for acceptance, compromise is not in the vocabulary, and thinking ruins it all instantly.... Walter is driven to sing spontaneous songs and he does so with no knowledge of music theory. Leaving his body, traveling the highways of the universe, and tapping into this endless song experience is what excites him. Spirits take him over and tell their stories through his voice and instruments. He describes it as walking into a big screen movie. In live situations the energy from the audience heavily influences the music. People often comment on how did he know such things about them? He has been doing this for over 50 years and records about 300 full lenght cds a year in a 1 man band format. He truely is a one of a kind artist. Look for some 1 man band cd releases to appear soon as digital downloads.
On this session he left his 1 man band setup and gathered some of his world class musician friends for an intimate afternoon recording session in Spontobeat. This session was a couple days after Walter's annual Tunnel of Dreams Festival that he puts on in his backyard each summer. The vibes were good and this cd presents it all uncut, so the listener can experience how Spontobeat unfolds. The entire session took less than an hour to master from the raw tracks and only a couple hours to record (including studio set up time). Walter's feels akin to sidewalk art(here today-gone tomorrow). He puts his entire being into each song and when it is finished, it is gone forever. New songs never cease to await him and he doubts he will ever get beyond page one of this endless journey. His art reflects life, thus all the warts and bumps are here. No plastic surgery with Spontobeat! Walter is seeking the right person to market his one of a kind approach to the world. Contact him if you are interested.
Mark Rubinstein is on bass/recording engineer, Sean Carney on guitar(vocals on 1 cut), and Katherine "steady baby" Stevens on drums.
Here is some biographical information on Walter, Sean, Mark, and Katherine.
"THE COSMIC COWBOYS COSMIC COWBOY" - Bob Guccione (founder penthouse magazine)
Walter has traveled the highways of the world for the past 35 years and has resided in Austin, SF Bay Area, NYC, New Jersey, Brussels, Oslo, Ohio, and Arizona. He sought out the blues greats and places where his approach to music would be accepted. He lived with Lousiana Red as a teenager, and played and toured with many of the blues and rock and roll greats. He lived the high life and the low life during this journey and a book is being written by Nigel Price, an author from England. Also a film documentary is in the works. Walter got tired of dealing with the struggles to keep at top notch band intact, and became a full time, 1 man band(bass drum, snare, high hat, guitar, piano, vocal, harp all played at once) about 10 years ago. He learned this from playing harmonica with Wilbert "Kansas City" Harrison, in the 70's. This has allowed him to have a band at his disposal 24/7. He also built a recording studio to capture the music, and records approx 300 full length cds a year.
Recent accomplishments: NBC feature story on his musicial life Nov. 2009, composed the soundtrack for the 2009 NBC Thanksgiving special "Stories", 2010 NBC valentines special "Stories" soundtrack (probably the only completely spontaneous soundtracks to appear on a network show), won the 2009 Bushman World Harmonica Contest and represented the Columbus Blues Alliance in the 2008 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. He also recorded 30 cds in the month of Febuary 2009 for the RPM Challenge. This is a world record that was covered in many music publications around the world. He was going to have it recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records but they charge to be listed in their book (something he could not wrap his head around).

Mark Rubinsteinâs wide range of interests, his insatiable curiosity, and the unusual scope of his abilities have combined to generate a unique and diverse musical career. Markâs main instrument is piano, but he has played drums in punk bands, electric bass in salsa groups, and accordion in settings ranging from symphony orchestras to avant-garde theatre pieces. His interest in ethnic music has led him to seek out performance opportunities in Greek, French, German, Italian, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Brazilian, and traditional Jewish music. Mr. Rubinsteinâs work as a recording engineer has led to Grammy nominations and platinum records for his clients, and his productions are noted for their clarity of sound and attention to detail. Career highlights include: music direction for the recent production of âThe Blue Flowerâ by American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, as well as an earlier production by Prospect Theater Company in New York; music direction for regional tap dance festivals âSoul To Soleâ in Austin, TX and âThird Coast Tap Festival/Jazz on Tapâ in San Antonio, TX; performances (on piano) with legendary jazz flutist Herbie Mann, seminal jazz bassist Eddie Gomez, saxophonist Bunky Green, and legendary tap dancers Arthur Duncan, Dianne Walker, and Sarah Petronio; European tours with noted songwriters Dirk Hamilton and George Carver; membership in influential early Texas punk band The Rejects; and recordings (as engineer) with many noted artists including: Grover Washington, Jr., Shirley Horn, Cher, Liza Minelli, Judy Collins, Najee, Gerald Levert, Scarface, George Duke, Bobby Womack, Backstreet Boys, and Natalie Cole.

Mr. Rubinstein assumed the presidency of the Musiciansâ Society of San Antonio, Local 23, American Federation of Musicians in January 2009. He is a voting member of NARAS and a member of AES.
In November 2008, Mark attained Digidesign certification as a Pro Tools HD Music Expert, one of fewer than 100 in the world at present. He also holds Digidesign Pro Tools HD Operator and VENUE Operator certifications.
Itâs no accident that Sean Carneyâs career has been arcing steadily upward. The Columbus, Ohio bluesman has it in his family genes, with jazz horn players in the previous two generations. Heâs put in at least his share of work and dues laying the foundation as he enters his third decade as a pro. Onstage locally he mastered his craft backing a wide array of local and national R & B greats such as Christine Kittrell and Jimmy âT-99â Nelson and making it known that he was a skilled and tasteful guitarist and vocalist. In 1998 he recorded his debut CD Provisions (re-packaged in 2007 with the inclusion of Kittrellâs last recordings). He gained exposure and experience serving as vocalist Teeny Tuckerâs musical director and co-writer. Offstage he was a tireless advocate for those same artists, the blues and jump they represented and the areaâs musical heritage, writing articles, being a dj, promoting concerts and serving three terms as President of the Columbus Blues Alliance.
Seanâs profile has gotten a major boost in the last five busy years, and in fact is decidedly international these days when European tours often in the company of major historical figures have become almost routine for him. Drummer Eric Blume, who performed with Sean for over a decade, and Sean founded Nite Owlz Records in 2006 and issued Seanâs CD Life Of Ease. It was a welcome surprise and a triumph of substance when The Sean Carney Band won the Albert King Best Guitarist and took first place at the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Opportunities and touring increased dramatically. His 2007 and 2008 Blues For A Cure shows and CDs raised over $50,000 for the cause. In 2009 his 2007 Canadian recording Live Blues On Whyte was released. He has performed worldwide with Big Joe Duskin, Duke Robillard, Charlie Baty, Columbus standby Willie Pooch, Hank Marr, Joe Weaver, Johnnie Bassett, âKing Saxeâ Gene Walker, Sir Mack Rice and Hal Singer as well as his own group. As his visibility has grown, so has the growing realization that Sean is a noteworthy, sophisticated master of tone and taste with a broad appreciation for the music before him and around him and a knack for turning out interesting songs. His discography has shown a solid, well-considered approach and, as he puts it, âsolid songs and tight arrangements.â And his reputation as a talent, a respecter of tradition and a humble and gracious person has become deservedly widespread.
With recent studio recordings with Duke Robillard and Jimmy Thackery, Sean Carney reaffirms his importance and value as a part of the blues scene he has supported so tirelessly for so long. Itâs extra easy to root for him because of all the good heâs done and the road heâs taken. But even someone who knows nothing about him is bound to take notice of this grounded, savvy and rewarding musical affirmation of so many great things about Sean Carney and the blues.
Katherine is Walter's favorite drummer and he sure has had some great ones over the years! She is a versatile drummer that has played with all types of bands from Country, Blues, Gospel, to Big Band Swing. She has been playing for over thirty-five years in Northern California and studied with Dave Brady
