Stolen Hymnal is a project by musician and artist Bernard Chadwick who began re-imagining hymns when he took a copy of the church hymnal out of the pews and brought it home. Like many other self taught musicians of his generation, Bernard does not read music but plays instinctively from years of experience of playing in a community of musicians. The desire to sing the lyrics of these great hymns drove him to write melodies and chord progressions that were vibrant and soulful; reminiscent of the gospel, bluegrass and rock n' roll music that he played with other artists and musicians in Laguna Beach. The original vision of this project was to record live in the studio to analog tape and to cut a vinyl record. A very small number of people will get a chance to have this limited pressing, so the album is also available digitally. With the help of friends who understood the vision of bringing new life to these songs the album was made. Enjoy.
