Female-fronted, heartfelt, delicately-fried indie guitar pop
4 MP3 Songs
POP: British Pop, POP: Quirky
Details:
Haunting vocals, sparkling guitars and beautiful songs done with more than a dash of style - Santa Dog's heartfelt, delicately fried guitar pop is sweet relief for music fans all over. The female fronted four piece formed mere months ago in Bristol, England, spurred on by a lack of sunlight, dubious beverages and most importantly, musical influences that never engulf their songs. With this, their second ep, the band are continuing to sound like 'ones to watch' over the next year.
Rowena Dugdale - vocals/guitar
Rob Williams - lead guitar
Jojo Harper - bass
Jason Ewing - drums
"Bristol's excellent Santa Dog have just released their second EP. Titled "Chemical" the EP consists of four excellent tracks with "Katy" being my favourite. I have previously described the band as having a similiar sound to Throwing Muses but I can also hear hints of Faith Over Reason, The Sundays and the vocals of Alison Shaw amongst their tracks. That doesn't mean that the band have no originality of their own as they are slowly but surely creating their own distinctive identity."

"The second EP from the bristol based Santa Dog. This EP follows on from their impressive debut 'Delicate'. So, is this 'Chemical' EP any good?
If anything, this is a more impressive set of songs than their debut EP. The band seem to be finding their feet, not to mention their sound. Lead track 'Chemical' brings to mind the briefest hint of The Delgados.
Santa Dog's sound is classically indie. In the way the band have full and sweeping songs. I can still hear a lot of influences from the late 80's. The band seem to have taken this sound as a blue print and have successfully melded a sound that is becoming their own. This EP offers 4 delicious slices of guitar pop that sets the band apart from a lot of bands currently trying to get noticed. Couple this with some intelligent lyrics and you really are onto to a band that could go somewhere. Let's hope that somewhere is on tour soon. I would love to catch the band live - to see whether they could deliver on stage. I have said it before and I will say it again. Santa Dog are a band that are worth watching out for. The promise they have shown thus far seems like it is going to be kept. Santa Dog are a very good band."
