".....magical, soulful melodies, in a style which touches on folk, roots and blues."
12 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Blues, EASY LISTENING: Soft Rock
Details:
Singing Solo is the debut album by Canterbury-(UK)-based singer-songwriter, Sarah Reed.
The album is moulded around the theme of aloneness; the pain of being left behind and of finding the strength to go it alone.
The lyrics are intimate and poinant, many of the tracks rippling with metaphor and double-meaning, often revisiting core images throughout the 12 songs to give give a sense of continuity and journey, including some strong references to the poetry of Thomas Hardy.
Although built around Sarah's "compelling voice" and acoustic guitar (a 1985 Martin J40, named Grace, for all you who are interested in such things), the album features performances by some impressive session musicians, including Derek Heffernan (Paul Roland/The Virgin Prunes/High Brazil)and Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan).
Sarah was brought up in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England and moved to Canterbury, England about 5 years ago, when she, at last, found the time to develop her guitar playing and get down to some serious song-writing and recording. There are now two albums released, Singing Solo (2004)and Spellbound (2005) - (coming soon to CD Baby!). Album No. 3 is pretty much written and will be recorded as soon as finances allow!
When not working, recording or performing, Sarah spends quality time with her two ponies, two cats and a corn-snake called Blossom.
