"Sangie Davis, reknown for writing classic Reggae hits, such as "Wake Up & Live" on Bob Marley's Survival album and ""Words""; a world-wide tune he wrote and sang on Lee Scratch Perry's Upsetters label in the 70's."
Since the early charts of his first two hit songs "Oh Ma Oh Pa" and Loving You, recorded in 1959 with The Melody Enchanters for Chris Blackwell's Blue Beat label, Sangie Davis has collaborated with the most celebrated figures in Reggae. Davis's songwriting created such memorable hits as "Wake Up & Live" performed by Bob Marley; "Words" with Lee Scratch Perry; "Make Ends Meet" recorded by Dennis Brown; Let's Dance" recorded by Judy Mowatt; "Where Is The Love" recorded by Marcia Griffith; "Girlie Girlie" performed by Sophia George [subsequently reproduced in four languages]; "No wey no betta dan yard", performed by Tinga Stewart [Jamaican festival song of the year, 1981]; and many, many, more. Some of his most recent projects include "This Feeling" featured on Luciano's latest album, Serious time. By 1979 Davis was the A&R and PR Director for the label Tuff Gong, where as a producer his lyrics and musical arrangements advanced the career of artist Nadine Sutherland and shaped that of artist Sophia George.
Since the late 80's, Davis continued producing albums with artists from around the globe for an international independent label Orthodox Muzik. Through his active membership in the music department of The Twelve Tribes of Israel Organization, a new conviction of spirituality emerged and the gospel would remain rooted in the forum of his creative expression. Further developing the legacy of an elaborate recording career, by recommendation of his closest friends, Davis recorded and produced his solo album "Words Of My Mouth" in 2005.
Sangie has been a pivotal force behind the production and development of numerous timeless hits in reggae music for more than four decades, this world-renown songwriter & recording artist has been one of the most sought after composers of the 20th century.
