WORLD: Reggae
Details:
Sam and the Stylees, although landlocked in Tulsa, Okla., has captured the strength, spirituality and beauty of Reggae music. Their words and music flow from an inner understanding of the message of Reggae. The message of the music - and it comes through vividly in each song - is one of love, peace and harmony among all people. These, however, are not merely words. They are life. Listen to the lyrics and the haunting and often powerful instrumental work on this CD and you will see - and hopefully be convinced of - the importance of the message that Sam and the Stylees is trying to convey. Sam and the Stylees formed in 2002 and has been playing clubs, festivals and parties in the Tulsa area since. Orginally formed by current members Thomas "Doc" Glendening, Lance Reynolds and Sam Jones, the band added along the way the important pieces that complete the band - Maria Lokey, Brian "Bee" Meddler, Ryan "Santana" Griffith and Jason Almohandis. It is an ethnic and spiritually diverse group. All members have a background in former bands in the Tulsa area. "Doc" plays drums and percussion and delivers strong background and lead vocals. Lance and Sam play lead and rhythm guitars. Maria supplies background vocals and harmonies. "Bee" sings lead on most songs and fills in on drums and percussion when "Doc" somtimes takes over the lead singing role. "Santana" offers some often spectacular and always solid beats on his congas and percussion instruments. Jason keeps the bottom thumping with slick bass work. This CD was recorded in the summer 2003 and released in the fall. This is NOT a cover band. All songs are original and all members contribute both words and music. The band ranges in ages from Sam at 17 (the baby of the group) to "Bee" at 32. Members of Sam and the Stylees take their music seriously, but they also have fun with it. Their live performances never fail to get the crowd on their feet and dancing. But it also is music with a serious side - and their lyrics reflect that. This is music worth listening to - closely. More information about Sam and the Stylees can be found on the Web page at www.samandthestylees.com. We hope you will agree that this is well worth your time and effort. So, enjoy Sam and the Stylees, Serious Ting. It is music that will make you feel "IRIE."
