Trumpeter/Vocalist/Composer Johnny Souza is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music where he majored in music performance and studied with instructors including: John LaPorta, Wes Hensel and Mike Metheny. Johnny led his own popular, commercial dance band performing throughout the 80's at nightclubs and events up and down the east coast. Johnny now performs jazz exclusively and has two recordings as leader to his credit. Comprised of jazz standards along with Johnny's original compositions, these recordings have received a high level of airplay on jazz radio across the country.
"Johnny's voice is easy and smooth, with a distinctive, creative bent and a light vibrato like John Pizzarelli".
Fred Bouchard - Downbeat Magazine
"Souza's forte lies in his prodigious instrumental solos, either on trumpet or flugelhorn he employs smooth, legato lines, his sense of melody and improvisation, ever renewing, does not fall into the trap of excessive cliches and loquaciousness"
Ernie Santosuosso - Boston Globe Jazz Critic/QuarterNotes Jazz Publication
"Johnny Souza's trumpet is superb, clean cut - his doubles and triples are as sharp as the air they ride. Johnny's flugelhorn smiles widely. And Johnny sings "madly" - as Ellington might say."
Peter Deveber- Author, Contributor New England Jazz Alliance
