Moody indie rock built on sweet melodies, with a melancholic undercurrent.
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Quirky
Details:
Sons of the Golden West formed in the summer of 2004 when Bay Area-based musicians Eric Butterfield (Cold Crank, The Subtractions) and B. Satter (Shifflett, Non Grata) decided to pool their gear and resources to record some songs.
In a room above a motorcycle shop in San Francisco's Mission District, the two began basic tracking, reworking material from a selection of half-done and/or poorly recorded numbers they had lying around. Eventually realizing that the music needed words, they convinced Justin Sacco (Sherman Dickman) into joining the group. What began as a casual recording experiment began to morph into something more cohesive, resulting in a 12-track self-titled album, which the band released on its own Fashionably Late Records label in April 2006. SOTGW plans to begin playing live shows in the Bay Area in summer 2006.
