Album Notes From The Writers:
Georgie and I are really hoping you enjoy our new release, âA Country Moodâ. So let me just add a quick word about the origins of this. I first played in a full on country band in the mid 80âs where the first gig was at the Orange County Fair, as I recall, I went and did it without a single rehearsal. From there, I was with at least one other Country outfit and recording sessions.
Thereafter, I began writing country tunes and even doing country arrangements on rock songs I had already written. My favorite country artists are George Strait and Dwight Yoakam, and of the really old school guys I think Merle Haggard is a great writer of Country tunes.
Georgie is from Dallas Texas so she has immediate country credentials, and as always, a lot of the lyrics are hers.
Alright, that said: Here goes-------------
Another Sleepless Night, comes from my creative diarrhea period between 1978 thru 1982. It was originally a pop Beatles type tune; I have it recorded that way, also.
She Donât Love You is exactly the same. Of course, I originally wrote it as He Donât Love You. Again, my idea was to write the negative of She Loves You. I guess I could have written I Donât Want To Hold Your Hand.
Gee I hate to get repetitive, but the same goes for Iâm Gonna Love You Forever Tonight with the one caveat that at some period, when my prolific period slowed down a bit, I looked at all the songs I had written and believed that this one was easily one of the best. It lent itself to easily being recorded in different styles. The country version offered here was recorded analog way back in the late 80s-early 90âs. Yes, thatâs a real steel guitar on it. By the way, one of our songs also written during this period was recently picked up by Warner Brothers. It was originally titled Get The Hell Out Of Hollywood. Georgie and I wrote new lyrics for it and titled it The Last Scream Of Halloween. It was used on Halloween themed segment of the TV Show âCutsâ Starring Corbin Bernsen. That just confirms everyone should pull out the old originals because you may have a gem amongst them.
Back to this album, Hey Baby is a brand new song and offering. Itâs a country- rockabilly tune we hope you enjoy.
El Guapo I must admit is another offspring of my love for the movie The Three Amigos. This is Georgie doing a wonderful job on the tune in ¾ time, with a real south of the border flavor to it. Iâm sure our faux Spanglish lyrics mean absolutely nothing, but if anyone can let us know, we would be most interested and amused.
Iâm On The Verge Of Tears is all Georgieâs that she had me perform and sing. She says she loves my version of it, so it must be OK.
Sheâs All Over Me was recorded at the same session as Iâm Gonna Love You Forever Tonight. It was under publishing contract in the late 80âs, and If I remember correctly, a couple of publishers wanted it and I picked one, but alas, nothing happened with it.
Rolling on Back To You, actually started life as an instrumental I wrote on classical guitar. Then Georgie and I wrote the lyrics you hear. I always think of my drummer friend, Mark Clark from New Mexico, when I hear this song. Itâs loosely based on his life. After playing with the band â88â I was in during a six years period, Mark joined the military and later moved back to New Mexico.
We Werenât Doing Much Anyway Now heres a great story. The original germ of this was actually written during a very strange gig I did a couple of times. Dressed as a pirate, Iâd walk around the Long Beach Aquarium in California with my acoustic guitar serenading the attendees to the area. One time out, I decided that I was going to get a song out of this. So, I put my tiny cassette recorder (which I carry with me at all times) into my pocket, and the life germ of this tune was written on the gig walking and playing at the Long Beach Aquarium- IN A PIRATE SUIT!
Oh, by the way, I hired the absolute worst Harmonica player I could find to play on this song âcuzâ thatâs what I wanted on the songâ¦.and he happened to me ME!
Iâm Crazy Now is all Georgies, actually her original arrangement was a Beatles type sound, and I suggested that we demo it in a couple of other styles as well. Great tune.
Itâs An Undone Deal, I was hoping to get to George Strait. I think itâs a great tune, and I still think it could be a Country Hit.
1000 Miles of Wine and Roses, was originally recorded at Tom Williams Studio, a great friend of mine. So was Sheâs All Over Me and Iâm Gonna Love You Forever Tonight. A Very Dwight Yoakam thing, when I first looked at Dwights album This Time after I wrote this song, when I first saw the title 1000 Miles, I asked myself, uh oh, Had I heard this tune and unwittingly rewrite it. Needless to say I was relieved when I hear his tune and it bore absolutely no resembelence. Just a Ko-Winky-Dink.
Good News From Nashville is another one I wrote in the late 80âs. I think itâs a nice country story.
Finally Perfect Country Song was Georgies idea after hearing David Allen Coeâs thoughts on the subject of what one was made of. These are our ideas.
Thanks for checking it out. In other news, you might have heard, we have commissioned an animated Video short to be done on I Saw Hanukkah Harry Beat Up Santa due to be released later this year definitely in time for the Holidays. Watch for it. Thanks
