Old school rock with a modern edge: Social Distortion mixed with Bad Religion, served with some Reverend Horton Heat
16 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Rockabilly, ROCK: Punk
Details:
SixGun was formed with one key idea. If you make good music that doesn't age, or lose its appeal with time, you have something that is universal and appealing to nearly everyone.
They took the basics from the masters like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis and put a modern-day spin on things. They included a lot of influences from modern bands with the same basics like Social Distortion, Bad Religion etc. Then add a little hint of The Reverend Horton Heat and the Stray Cats and you have a wide platform of infuences that actually fit well together.
SixGun is definitely unique but approachable and digestible musically. The first two songs written by the band quickly became crowd favorites and are staples at any SixGun show. "Americana" talks about being around at a time when life was a lot less complicated than it is now. The title song "SixGun" is simply reflective of a rock and roll attitude easily found in the lyrical content.
The band is made of musicians that have been very familiar with the live music scene in their home of Ventura County California.
Jake Wells, who founded SixGun, has been a drummer about 2/3 of his life. Playing in previous bands like EvEn3, Marmalade, OneDown and working on the revival of a local legend band called Colyzion that never happened. This is his first time out as a singer/guitarist even though it has always been a side hobby.
Mike Perkins has played in a handful of bands as well with a lot of live experience reaching back a quite a few years with D.O.S., Anti-Love Song to name a couple.
Levi Manes played bass in EvEn3 and Table 9 and has played numerous live shows throughout the Ventura/Los Angeles area.
Matt Jacen has been a studio drummer for some time and was recruited by SixGun when the original drummer quit three hours before the bands first show in early 2005.
Together they have worked and created a style unique to them.
"The main priority is making music we can be proud of." They said, "And making music that doesn't go out of style."
