Mikal Stonefield got hooked on music hearing the sounds and drums from the local Jr. High School band in his neighborhood. Stonfield was moved and new he had to be a part of the music. Later in High School, Stonefield was asked to play trumpet and keyboards in a funk band that was being formed by high school friend John Broussard. (JAB). Jack Yates High School â Houston, Texas. Long time friend, and fellow Artist, De Holley was the lead singer. The band (Nu- Wave) did mostly covers, including Prince, The Time, and other funky covers of the day. They created a buzz, and a large following throughout Houston.
After many years of being out of the music scene, long time friend De Holley asked Stonefield to play keyboards in his band. Holleyâs project, â Emotionally Unavailableâ has been greatly received throughout Texas, and abroad. Holley worked with Rick Marcel, Dr. Fink of Prince and the Revolution. And the ultimate⦠Music Royalty PRINCE.
De Holley and band has successfully toured from Texas to Tennessee, with opportunities to do a promo tour in Amsterdam.
â With the way the industry is today, some of the best music is rarely or never heard, says Stonefield.â â I love pop, and hip hop, but some variety would be cool.â â You can only like what you here. If the industry only airs certain genres of music, the choices that music lovers have are limited.â Thank God for Indy music avenues.
Stonefield has many influences including: Sly and The Family Stone, Yes, Genesis, Phil Collins, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Cameo, Bootsy, George Duke, George Benson, and many others. The biggest influence has been all the sounds that came from Minneapolis. The Time, Prince, Alexander OâNeal, Jessie Johnson, and the whole crew. He has always been a big fan of Dr. Fink, and of course Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Sleepless nights inspired Stonefield to just record, one take first time raw songs. â Whatever comes out, comes out, says Stonefieldâ This created what he calls, â One Kiss and Go.â
