The third album from The State is a return to the guitar-based alternative sound of debut album 'The State', with slightly more of a rock edge. This album is a journey into America's underbelly, from the vast plains ("American Wilderness", "Shimmer"), towns left behind ("Haunted By You"), superhero mythology ("Nightman"), endless roads ("The Longest Road"), chaos ("Rolling Thunder"), solitude ("Alone in a Basement"), greed and easy money ("Dead are Rising", "Circling Sharks", "It's Easy") and corrupt politics ("Their New God") with an epic, dreamy, hallucinogenic finale ("Just a Mirage")
The album features a range of guitar sounds, clean electric, distorted, delayed over sparkling rhythms and smooth basslines, as well as some gentle acoustic songs, such as the "chill-out" seven and a half minute final track. Bethany Mikell provides guest vocals on "Rolling Thunder".
