Details:
Jake Stigers grew up in Boise, Idaho listening to every type of music he could get his hands on. He learned to sing in church with his vocally gifted mother, and after high school he embarked on a two-year term as a missionary in Tennessee. Over the course of those two years, he was greatly influenced by the people and music that surrounded him, particularly the deep soul rock nâ roll of the South, the same music that influenced the sounds of classic acts like the Rolling Stones, to whom Jake has received numerous comparisons.

Stigers, who began playing with his band, the Velvet Roots, while in New York, has a reputation for his powerful vocals and frenzied live performances, both of which have helped him to build a loyal and rapidly expanding fan base while performing at such venues as CBâs Gallery, Arleneâs Grocery, Mondo Cane, Mercury Lounge, the Living Room, Don Hillâs, the Bitter End, and Bowery Ballroom.

Since the release of his latest effort, Cominâ Back Again, which has already sold more than 5,000 copies, Jake has put on more than 250 live performances and built up a mailing list with more than 10,000 subscribers. In addition, the response from the press, radio, and fans has been extraordinary. As Pulse Weekly recently reacted, âHis songs are beyond catchy, and he mixes many elements into them, crafting a large body of work that ranges from pure power-pop to Rolling Stones-like blues-rock.â

Cominâ Back Again was recorded in Brooklyn, New York with producer Nunzio Signore who has toured and recorded with such acts as Brian McKnight, Kelly Price, Destinyâs Child, Will Smith, Tina Turner, and many others. Melodic.net says the record âcould be the result if Mick Jagger, Steve Miller, and the Black Crowes got together and made an album.â Jakeâs older brother, Curtis Stigers, who is one of the most distinctive voices in jazz, co-wrote the discâs third track, âOnly Wanna Be with You.â The two had already proven that they work well together when Jake provided background vocals on Curtisâs album Time Was (Arista).

The album has been a fixture in the CMJ college radio stationsâ top ten lists from California to Maine, charting at number one in Athens, Ohio. It is in rotation at over 200 college and AAA radio stations across the U.S. as well as numerous BBC radio stations across the U.K. The first track, âDo You Feel High,â was featured on Q104 FM, New York Cityâs number-one rock station, as part of Jonathan Clarkeâs new music show, âOut of the Box,â which airs the best in new music and local undiscovered artists. âDonât Know Where I Belongâ was recently selected to be featured on the 2006 Songwriterâs Hall of Fame compilation. Additionally, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers recognized Jakeâs outstanding year for the second year in a row with the ASCAP Plus Award, which is given out annually to select independent artists.

Most recently, Jake & The Velvet Roots embarked on a whirlwind tour of the UK with performances at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool to opening for blues-legend Albert Lee in London. The music was so well received by BBC and local radio, press and audiences country-wide, that plans are underway to have him return with the Velvet Roots this October to support the release of Jakeâs next CD, âNo Vacancyâ. After returning to the States, Jake was invited to perform at the prestigious NXNE Film & Music Festival in Toronto, ON. The tour concluded with a solo acoustic performance at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN.
