Neo-romantic improvisations that quiet the spirit and soothe the heart.
13 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Celtic, NEW AGE: Healing
Details:
Stan Stewart is a musical artist who excels at creating music "in the moment". Improvising for dance, ritual and ceremony for over 25 years, these days you are most likely to find him playing a drum, guitar or piano and singing.
Stan's father was a church minister who saw the asset of his son's musicality. So his first "stage" for performance was in church worship services. Even here, he often turned to improvisation in order to provide musical backdrops for long segments of the worship.
While living in Glasgow, Scotland, during the mid-1970's, Stan joined his first band. Naturally, it was a jazz-fusion ensemble specializing in short and long group improvisations as well as thematic pieces with long solo breaks for each of the band members.
During his years in California (1988-2001) and now in Pennsylvania, Stan consistently provides astonishing vocal and instrumental musical works created without rehearsal. Though he often performs solo, he has also enjoyed many collaborations with other improvisational artists of all performing genres -- instrumental music, singing, dancing, storytelling, and improvised poetry.
While it is difficult to nail down a particular style in his "made up in the moment" pieces, listen for the jazz-fusion and Celtic influences in his recordings and improvisations.
