Savannah Arts Academy's The SkyeLite Jazz Band

Since its inception, members of the SkyeLite Jazz Band (SJB) have traveled extensively to such places as: Jackson, Mississippi; Montgomery, Alabama; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Washington, D.C.; Biloxi, Mississippi, ; and Atlanta, Georgia. Locally, the SJB has performed for many of Savannah's local schools, business, and civic organizations.
The SJB was nominated by the Honorable Senator Max Cleland to represent Georgia and perform for the "Georgia State Day" in Washington DC. The SJB also performed on April 14, 1999 at the John F. Kennedy Center. Additionally, seventeen members of the SJB performed in Chengdu and Beijing, China during the summer of 2004. The SJB has received many special awards such as: a Proclamation by the City of Savannah and County of Chatham, a Proclamation by the Governor of Georgia as " Ambassadors of Goodwill", resolutions by the Georgia Senate and the House of Representatives (8), Letters of Congratulations from Mayor Floyd Adams, Congressman Jack Kingston, and President Clinton, and a letter of recognition from Col. Roger Bramble, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, The SJB has also been featured in the Coastal Senior, Savannah Morning News, Georgia Guardian, Augusta Focus, Augusta Chronicle, Savannah Tribune, Freedom's Journal, Ultimate Magazine, and Diversions.
Former members of the SJB are now attending prestigious universities and conservatories including Oberlin College, Clark Atlanta University, Valdosta State University, Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah State University, Georgia State University.

"Tuesdays", the CD's Title, was recorded by the members of SJB in the spring of 2005 to raise money to purchase a piano for the school's band room

The SJB has performed with National jazz greats Donald Byrd, Ben Tucker, Teddy Adams, Jimmy Heath, Ravi Coltrane, Odean Pope, Curtis Fuller, Luis Bonilla, Avishai Cohen, Vince Cherico, Oscar Stagnaro, Ernesto Diaz, Bertram Lehmann, Alon Yavnai and Benny Golson. The SJB has also performed with many of Savannah's jazz artists such as Teddy Adams and Randy Reese. The SJB has completed over 320 performances since the opening of Savannah Arts Academy such as: 1999 John F. Kennedy Center, 2000 & 2001 Southern Legislature Conference, 2001 Savannah Day, Georgia Capitol, 2002 AlgebraProject - Actor Danny Glover Guest Speaker and 2002 Savannah On Stage - Rovi Coltrane Guest Artist.
